The After School Railyard is MMRC’s program for elementary, middle school, and high school students who want a hands-on, screen-free activity after the school day ends. From 2:00 to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, kids get real time on real O-Scale trains in a structured and welcoming environment.

Whether your child is a lifelong train enthusiast or has never seen an O-Scale layout up close, the Railyard meets them where they are. Train rentals and full track access are included with every membership.

Train Rentals Included

Full access to MMRC’s inventory of O-Scale Lionel, MTH, and Atlas O locomotives and rolling stock. No extra rental fee for Railyard members.

Kids run on our professionally built O-Scale layouts. Multiple track configurations give every session something new to explore.

Our staff is available to help set up and operate trains if needed.

Light Snacks Provided

Snacks are included every day. We accommodate common food allergies and dietary restrictions. Just let us know at enrollment.

Transportation from Local Schools is Available.

We are working with local schools in the Taunton and Raynham area to provide transportation directly to MMRC after the school day. Availability varies by school and schedule. Contact us to find out whether your child’s school is covered and to get the details for enrollment.

Straightforward answers about the After School Railyard program.

QDoes my child need to know anything about model trains to join?
Not at all. The Railyard is designed for all experience levels. Our staff is available to help set up and operate trains if needed, and will get every child oriented with the equipment and running trains on their first day, regardless of prior experience.
QWhat are the drop-off and pick-up procedures?
Drop-off begins at 2:00 PM and pickup is by 6:00 PM. A staff member will be at the entrance for both. We ask that parents or authorized guardians sign children in and out each day.
QIs the $199 weekly fee charged on weeks with school holidays?
Membership is paused on weeks the Railyard is closed due to school holidays or MMRC closures. You will not be charged for days the program does not run.
QMy child has food allergies. How do you handle that?
We ask all families to disclose allergies at enrollment. Snacks are selected with common allergens in mind and we can make accommodations for most dietary restrictions. Please contact us before your first session to discuss specifics.
QCan parents or guardians stay & attend the After School Railyard?
After School Railyard is built to be a kids-exclusive program. If a child requires additional supervision, an approved parent/guardian may be present with prior authorization from Mass Model Railroad Club.
QHow does the transportation work?
The Complimentary Shuttle may be available for pick up from local schools, travel arrangements home will not be provided. Contact us for current availability.
QWhat sensory accommodations are available?
We have ear protection on hand for children sensitive to sound. The layouts can be loud during busy sessions. Additional sensory aids are available on request. Reach out ahead of enrollment so we can prepare for your child's needs.
QCan my child bring their own train?
Yes. O-Scale trains compatible with our three-rail track system are welcome. Our staff is available to help verify compatibility before your child's first session. Train rentals are also included with membership if they prefer to use ours.
QHow many children are in the program at one time?
We keep enrollment intentionally managed to ensure every child gets meaningful time on the layouts with proper supervision. Contact us for current availability.
QIs there a trial visit before committing to a weekly membership?
We encourage families to reach out before enrolling so we can answer questions and give you a feel for the program. Contact us to schedule an introductory visit for your child.
QAre you licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care or any other state agency?
No, due to our Open-Door policy, where children may drop-in during any or all of the hours that the program is open, and may come and go from the program at will we are exempt from licensure per the EEC guidelines.
QDo Mass Model Railroad Club employees complete background checks?
Yes. Employees of the Mass Model Railroad Club are required to complete CORI checks and background checks as part of the club’s commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for members, visitors, and families.
